Lasallian Developing World Projects
The De La Salle Brothers, much like the Christian Brothers, work in many parts of the developing world improving the opportunities for young people through education. They have a particular focus on communities in East and West Africa, India, Thailand and Sri Lanka.
Since 2003, students from St Joseph’s have been supporting this work through the LaSallian Developing World Projects (LDWP). This involves living and working in the countries previously mentioned, often in villages with basic facilities. In their time there, they provide the labour needed to assist with the building of such things as classrooms or dormitories or improving water and hygiene facilities. Aside from gaining a huge amount on a personal level from their involvement in these projects, our young people are able to return home after 6 weeks, in the knowledge they have had a real impact on these communities, leaving something behind them which long outlasts their time there.
